Sony is usually recognised for being an innovator in the world of top quality design, gaming and the TV industries. But now Sony has launched yet another first with its super slim Xperia T3. How does this new handset compare to some of the most legendary slim smartphones we’ve ever seen?
Sony Xperia T3
The Xperia T3 has been heralded the world’s slimmest 5.3-inch smartphone on the entire market, adding to Sony’s growing list of accolades.
Measuring in at just 7mm thick, the handset is slim enough to slip into any pocket, which is remarkable for a phone that sports such a sizeable screen! The T3 has dropped down a dress size or two from its other Sony cousins including the Xperia Z2 which features a slightly heftier 8.2mm waistline.

Huawei Ascend P6
Up until recently, the Huawei Ascend P6 has been known as the world’s slimmest smartphone, making the Chinese manufacturer a household name across the globe. Measuring just 6.18mm thick and a miniscule 120 grams, the handset really is the Naomi Campbell of the smartphone world.
Gionee Elife S5.5
Knocking the Huawei P6 off the top spot comes- drum roll please- the Gionee Elife S5.5! OK, so 9 out of 10 of you might never have heard of this phone, but it seems that you don’t have to be one of the big dogs to offer the world’s slimmest smartphone.
The Indian smartphone maker has created a really beautiful device with the S5.5, which boasts a tiny 5.6mm waistline alongside its 5-inch super sharp display. The handset sits right at the top of the design tree with a gorgeous glossy shell and gold trim along its slim body.
Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra
The Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra, despite having a lengthy name, is also one of the world’s slimmest smartphones to grace our shelves in recent years.
The phone adds a splash of colour to the line up, with super slim 6.5mm smartphones available in red, blue, pink, yellow, green and black.
Motorola RAZR2 V8
Next in line is a blast from the past: the Motorola RAZR2 V8. The world couldn’t get enough of Motorola’s RAZR range back in the noughties, generating the massive flip phone craze. After all, a phone that can fold in half? That’s infinitely cool.
OK, so the V8 might only feature a 2 megapixel camera and hold 1000 contacts, but who didn’t love downloading new wallpapers and polyphonic ringtones, or that satisfying ‘click’ you can only get by closing a flip phone?
Another manufacturer famous for keeping its smartphones on a diet is Apple, and there’s no better example than the iPhone 5s. Thanks to its petite 4-inch display and 112 gram body, the iPhone 5s measures in at just 7.6mm thick.
And, unlike so many super slim smartphones on the market, the iPhone 5s boasts everything you could ever need in the way of style, features and specs. It even has a James Bond-style finger print scanner!
The Vivo X3 is a smartphone you’ve most probably never heard of, but this time not for good reason. The Vivo X3 was launched back in 2013 claiming the title (for a short period, anyway) the world’s slimmest smartphone.
And what better way to market a ludicrously slim smartphone? Photograph someone using it in place of a knife. That’s right, the Vivo X3 is apparently so thin you could use it to chop the Sunday veg. In theory anyway…
Laptop maker Lenovo is next in line, with its 5.5-inch K900. Sporting a 6.9mm chassis, the K900 boasts some impressive specs. With a 2GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel camera, the Lenovo K900 offers far more than just a slim-line smartphone.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra
It looks as though the Xperia T3 isn’t Sony’s only ultra slim smartphone to hit the shelves; the Xperia Z Ultra claimed a commendation back in June last year. Unlike so many other thin phones, the Z Ultra sports a massive 6.4-inch display at the same time as featuring a slimmed down 6.5mm waistline.
And on top of that, the Xperia Z Ultra boasts a huge set of specs too, including a quad-core processor, an 8 megapixel camera and all of Sony’s infamous entertainment features. Who said you had to choose between style over substance?
ZTE Grand Memo 2
Hot off the conveyor belt, the Grand Memo 2 from ZTE is again one of the latest slim smartphones to hit the market. Despite the hefty connotations of its name, the Grand Memo 2 actually boasts a 7.2mm thickness, alongside its huge 6-inch display.
ZTE’s latest super thin phablet is also ideal for all keen photographers out there; with a 13 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front facing camera, the Grand Memo 2 could satisfy any photo-mad user.
Huawei Ascend G6
Last but not least is the Huawei Ascend G6. Huawei seems to be on a roll this year with its line up of thin phones; with the Ascend P6, followed by the 6.5mm P7, Huawei’s Ascend G6 finishes off the hat-trick, dominating the top tier of slim-line smartphones.
The G6 sports similar specs to its older cousin, with an 8MP camera and quad-core processor, as well as Android Jelly Bean.
