Fancy dress competitions |
Being part of our community is really important to us; we have the potential
to make a positive difference and we don’t take that responsibility lightly so
our team runs monthly events to raise money for our chosen causes.
Here’s just some of the things we do regularly:
• We have monthly dress down days where everyone donates £1 to
come to work in their ‘out of work’ clothes. There’s quite a lot of us
so this is a great way to raise money and we can all also check out
the latest fashions as well.
• We have fun fancy dress competitions which always cause a laugh,
gaming events and even Olympic races.
• We sell yummy cakes that our teams have handmade and no one
worries about the calories that day.
• We even sponsor each other to do silly things like shave our heads,
be silent for 24 hours or climb large mountains in the rain.
Back in May 2009 we appealed to the public through our local town newspaper; we wanted to find a local worthwhile cause that wasn’t receiving the recognition or money it deserved. It was a hard choice and after lots of consideration we picked a cause that supported children and adults with a range of learning difficulties; ‘The Glebe House Project’.
Our aim was to raise £6000 for Glebe House by 1 September 2010 to enable them to run music therapy sessions for one year. Not only did we achieve this but we smashed our target raising a massive total of £6155.63. As this charity does such amazing work in our local community, we will continue to support them through 2011 and are setting ourselves a new challenge to raise an additional £5000 through sponsored runs, walks, silences and anything else our people fancy taking part in..
So what’s music therapy all about? Well it allows people to communicate and experiment with sounds. As some people are unable to fully communicate, sounds allow them to express themselves in a different way.
The Glebe House Project was established in 1983 and provides a varied range of quality services for adults and children of all ages with a learning disability who live in and around the Charnwood area. Activities are developed for each individual, taking into account their personal needs. Their children’s services include an afterschool club, children’s Saturdays, and a holiday play scheme for the whole day and are unique in the area. Click here to visit Glebe House.
