Samsung Tocco Lite - poised to take a bite out of the cookie
Since its launch in 2008, the LG Cookie has enjoyed massive sales by being the first model to offer state of the art touchphone technology without the big price tag. The enormous success of the touchscreen technology / keen price tag formula was bound to see more players enter the mid-price market, and with the Tocco Lite, Samsung have thrown a genuine contender into the fray.
Samsung Tocco Lite - aka Samsung S5320
Originally called the Samsung S5230 (a name that it retains outside the UK), the Samsung Tocco Lite was renamed specifically for the UK market. And although not having features such as Wi-Fi and 3G support (hence the ‘lite' classification), it still bears up well to the equally lacking LG Cookie, and instead carves out its advantages with features such as audio speakers and stunning multimedia capabilities, as well as matching the Cookie pound for pound with handwriting recognition, a luxurious 3 inch touchscreen and 3.2 megapixel camera. One particularly nifty innovation over the LG cookie is the Samsung Tocco Lite camera's smile detection function, which not only detects faces, but also waits for them to smile before the picture is taken.
Budget touchscreen heaven
The Tocco Lite also comes with Samsung's popular TouchWiz interface, allowing users to customize the desktop screen by dragging and dropping their favourite widgets. What's more, it has an accelerometer which enables the display to react as the handset is rotated, ideal for watching movies and gaming. The microSD card slot allows memory expansion up to 16GB, and the stereo Bluetooth support allows wireless audio streaming with a compatible hands-free device.
