**Alcatel might not be a name you’re used to associating with smartphones, but if you’re after a cheap phone, then it might be a brand worth considering. **

Alcatel smartphones have made a splash in the industry this year already, with a number of new handsets being announced.

Here we take a look at just two such smartphones, in our Alcatel One Touch Pop C1 and Alcatel Idol x+ review…

Alcatel One Touch Idol X+

The Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ (despite its less than snappy name) is an impressive smartphone that can keep up with all the big dogs in the industry.

Like its predecessor, the Idol X, it features a 5-inch display with a massive 441 pixels per inch, which means, for a mid-range smartphone, the Idol X+ offers a crystal clear display which could easily rival your latest Sony or Samsung flagships.

On top of that, the Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ features scratch resistant glass, which is a welcome surprise on a smartphone of this calibre. Add this to a beautifully smooth outer casing and a slim-line body measuring just 7.9mm thick and you’ve got an all round impressive smartphone.

And it doesn’t stop there, either. Under the hood, the Alcatel Idol X+ has whopping 2GHz octa-core processor, which means it can run faster than a number of handsets costing double the price. This is a huge mark up compared to the X+’s predecessor, the Idol X, which sports a still impressive 1.5GHz quad-core processor.

If Alcatel doesn’t tickle your fancy, why not take a gander at the Android smartphones for 2014.

Idol X+: Android with a difference

Although the Alcatel phone runs the Jelly Bean version of Android, Alcatel has put its own slant on the Idol X+’s user interface, making it a vibrant, colourful combination of Apple’s iOS and Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS. This breaths a bit of fresh air into the Android smartphone market, making the Idol X+ stand out from the rest.

A mid-range phone with a premium camera

Perhaps the most exciting of the Idol X+’s features is its camera. With a 13.1 megapixel rear facing lens sporting 4208 x 3120 pixels, you can turn professional photographer with the Idol X+.

And if you’re keen of the self-portrait, the Idol X features a 2 megapixel front-facing camera too, achieving fantastic selfies every time.

So to get all of this in one device, how much will it set you back? Not as much as you might think! Although the phone’s price tag is yet to be announced, compared to handsets from Samsung, Apple and HTC, the Alcatel Idol X+ is sure to be a snatch.

So if you’re set on getting your hands on a smartphone with a brilliant camera, a lightning speed octa-core processor and a crystal clear display that doesn’t break the bank, then the Alcatel Idol X+ is the phone for you.

Alcatel One Touch Pop C1

On the other end of the spectrum we’ve got the Alcatel One Touch Pop C1, a fun and colourful handset perfect for first-time smartphone users.

The Pop C1, as you might have guessed, is one in a range of Alcatel Pop smartphones- the C1, C3, C5 and C7- with the C1 being the smallest.

It sports a slightly smaller 3.5-inch display on top of a glossy, colourful shell designed to ‘pop’ with colour. Available in both pink and green, the Pop C1 adds a bit of Nokia-colour to the Android world, with an easy to grip, pebble-like body.

This budget smartphone offers all the same features as many more costly Android devices offer, including Android Jelly Bean with access to the thousands of apps available in the Google Play Store. It also has 4GB of internal memory, which can be expanded to 32GB using an SD card, meaning you don’t have to compromise on memory with the Pop C1 either.

Top all of that with a dual-core 1GHz processor and a 2 megapixel camera, there’s nothing you can’t do with the Alcatel One Touch Pop C1.

So if you’re after a great budget smartphone which won’t break the bank, then why not give the Alcatel One Touch Pop C1 a go? Coming soon to e2save.
