Voted the best UK network for the second year running, Vodafone is one of the biggest, and best, mobile networks in the UK. 5G is set to transform mobile connectivity, rendering buffering a thing of the past and hugely increasing download speeds to improve user’s mobile experience. So, what are the benefits of 5G on Vodafone? From 5G roaming to 5G-ready phones, here's everything you need to know.
Expanding 5G Coverage
Vodafone launched their 5G offering in July 2019, giving the cities of Glasgow, London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol 5G connectivity. Today, you can enjoy Vodafone 5G in 34 UK locations, and a further 68 towns and cities abroad. Great news if you have a 5G-ready phone and live in or are visiting these locations, as you’ll benefit from super-fast speeds, reduced latency time and a more reliable connection.
5G connectivity on Vodafone is constantly expanding, and if you’d like to check for certain when you can connect to a 5G network then just enter your postcode into Vodafone’s network status checker, and find out exactly when you can expect 5G in your area.
5G-ready phones on Vodafone
Of course, to use 5G you need a 5G-ready phone with a 5G modem to access the super-fast network. A number of manufacturers have so far released their own 5G-ready phones, so which ones can you buy on Vodafone?
As it stands, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G are both available on the Vodafone network. These are phones that have been specifically designed to cope with 5G, with fast processors to cope with the demands of 5G speeds, and huge displays for streaming high-resolution content. More 5G-ready phones are set to be available on Vodafone throughout 2019 and the next few years, so keep your eyes peeled.
Unlimited Data Plans
One of the biggest benefits of Vodafone is its huge selection of unlimited data plans. Giving you total phone freedom, you won’t need to worry about your data allowance or having no Wi-Fi – you can browse, post, call and text without your data running out, or needing a Wi-Fi connection.
With an unlimited data plan, you’ll also receive a subscription to Amazon Prime, Now TV, Sky Sports or Spotify - free for 24 months. Just take your pick of your preferred entertainment service and stream away without worrying about it eating up your data allowance.
All of Vodafone’s unlimited data plans are 5G-ready. You can stream your favourite TV shows, browse and post on social media on the go, without having to fret about buffering, lagging or having no data left at the end of the month. You can also choose from three different tariff speeds, giving you the option to pay less per month, depending on your online habbits.
Excellent Roaming Options
Vodafone is the first major phone network to support 5G roaming, so you can use your 5G data allowance as normal when travelling on business or on holiday in selected locations.
5G roaming on Vodafone became available to users in the summer of 2019, allowing people visiting 68 locations across Ireland, Germany, Italy and Spain to use their pre-existing 5G data plan as normal when visiting. Vodafone has also announced plans to extend their 5G roaming offering to more countries over the coming years.
5G Connectivity at Airports
Vodafone is also the first UK network to connect a major British airport with 5G. Manchester airport now has two 5G masts to bring holidaymakers superfast 5G connectivity while waiting for their flight.
What’s more, Vodafone 5G blastpods in Manchester Airport have provided holidaymakers with lightning-fast mobile speeds, so they can download a film to watch on the plane in seconds, or browse and update their social media faster than ever before. As these blastpods are connected through WiFi, you don’t need to have a 5G-ready phone to take advantage of this. Just connect to the network and go.
Vodafone have announced that they will roll out 5G to more transport hubs, including airports and train stations, by the end of 2019. So, prepare for unbeatable speeds and excellent connectivity while you’re travelling soon.
