These top features for iOS 8 look awesome!
Apple has finally released iOS 7.1 for us all to use, and whilst this is a somewhat exciting prospect for all the iPhone lovers out there, it isn’t exactly a major update.
In reality, it looks like we could be waiting for a while until the next big update comes, which is expected to be iOS 8 and will arrive alongside the iPhone 6.
But what can Apple stick in this update to get us all giddy and weak at the knees? Will iOS be able to beat Android in the OS battle, or will it be a bit of a bore?
TextEdit and Preview
Both of these formerly Mac-exclusive apps look a dead certainty to be included in the next big iOS update, especially after images were leaked showing the apps on an iPhone display.
TextEdit is a basic word processing application used by Apple as a replacement to Windows built Microsoft Office, which is obviously less preferred by Apple.
It’s also worth noting that the notes application which is currently the built in app closest to an actual word processor on iOS at the moment, will be staying around as well.
Preview is Apple’s own image and PDF displaying application, used on Mac to keep all of your images in one simple place.
Both of these apps will sync with your other Apple devices, making for more seamless integration between iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Auto-Delete
One area everybody seems to moan about their iPhone is storage; we never have enough of it, and when we fill it up it becomes a real pain to delete things just to fit the latest app or update.
But Apple is ready to help us deal with this by automatically deleting messages and emails, only after you’ve asked it to of course!
This feature will help save memory by deleting inactive message threads and emails each month or year, depending on what time setting you have the function on.
Healthbook
With all the hype surrounding the mixture of technology with our health and fitness, it’s no surprise to see Apple working on its very own version of the idea. This will be embodied iOS 8’s Healthbook app, which covers an array of fitness activities and bodily functions.
The app monitors our heart rate, sleep patterns and nutrition like other apps released by Samsung and Sony. However, what makes Apple’s version stand out is its ability to measure bloodwork, hydration, blood pressure, oxygen intake and even our blood sugar levels.

Rehashed Notification Centre
Whilst we loved the introduction of the notification centre on iOS 7, it could do with a refresh with iOS 8 in order to try and simplify the menu slightly.
At the moment we have three main columns, ‘today’, ‘all’ and ‘missed’, and rumour has it that this could be cut down to just two columns to make things a bit cleaner.
iTunes Radio App
iTunes Radio is set to have its very own app made for the iPhone’s home screen after seeing success in the areas that it is available in.
Unfortunately, the UK is not one of those places just yet, but Apple is thought to be discussing a deal to allow the feature to become legal here in the UK, as it currently causes a bucket-load of licensing issues related to media piracy right now.

Improved Design
We’re a fickle bunch aren’t we? Although there is nothing wrong with iOS 7’s design, we’re getting a bit bored with it, and we want a new look!
Apple never disappoints us with its design flair, and we hope that it can hit the mark again with both iOS 8 and the iPhone 6.
Could we see a preview?
It’s likely that we will see a trial build of iOS 8 during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, where Apple will be showing off all sorts of software developments.
Whether much will be revealed though is a tough question to answer, especially considering Apple’s secretive nature.
Overall though, we are sure Apple will blow us away yet again, with yet another phenomenal instalment of the mobile iOS, and hopefully it will have all of these features, along with many more!
