Since the release of the original iPad, Apple have dominated the Tablet market and with the later release of the iPad 2, they further increased their hold, but already news is surfacing for an iPad 3 release date. However, the competition has certainly heated up and Apple need to up their game yet again to stay ahead. Competition started in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, then we had releases such as the powerful Motorola Xoom, the BlackBerry Playbook, HTC’s Flyer and more recently we saw LG taking tablets to the 3rd dimension with the LG Optimus 3D tablet. So what is Apple planning to do about all this? Well according to the Wall Street Journal as well as other sources, the iPad 3 release date is set to be early 2012.

The iPad 3 is expected to have a higher resolution display than the iPad 2, 2048 x 1536 compared to 1024 x 768 previously. Although the display size, 9.7 inches is not expected to change fan and tech sites alike have been discussing what seem to be likely improvements to the iPad. The camera on the iPad 3 is due an upgrade, with fans hoping for a 5.0 megapixel rear camera and HD camera for improved video conferencing on the front. In the audio department, the rumour mill is focusing on the hopeful introduction of stereo sound. With the iPad being a device that is intended for multimedia and entertainment enthusaists, it is surprising that the first two iPad releases only featured Mono sound support.

What about flash?

Perhaps the biggest wish of those excitedly following the iPad 3 release date is that Apple will find a solution/update to the Adobe Flash incompatibility issues. This enhancement really should have made it into the iPad 2, especially with Flash support being such a crucial requirement for enjoying the full potential of web browsing. This really is where Apple’s competitors are teasing and twisting the dagger, so this is without doubt the most important improvement required.
