After months of speculation, the Apple iPad Mini release could be just around the corner. Invitations for an Apple press event on the 23rd October have been posted to the media, to grab a peek at the freshest tech in town.

The invite teases the masses as Apple claim “We’ve got a little more to show you”. Will it be an Apple iPad Mini release? We believe the Mini announcement will share the spotlight with the unveiling of a new MacBook Pro; a 13 inch laptop packing a Retina display.

Apple iPad Mini rumours

The iPad Mini release is expected to unveil a smaller iPad with a 7.85 inch display. Smaller than the traditional 9.7 inch display, the Mini is likely to be light on features and is rumoured to spec up around the ability of the second generation iPad. Pre-loaded with the latest iOS 6 features, the Apple iPad Mini would have access to improved Siri, who is now clued up on live scores of your favourite sports team.

Visually, the iPad Mini release could be designed to complement the look and feel of the iPhone 5. It’s highly likely the Mini will be compatible with the new Lightning dock connector; allowing faster data transfers across a smaller port.

Apple iPad Mini release vs Google Nexus 7

The Apple iPad Mini release would be the first time Apple repositions itself as an affordable tablet manufacturer. Over the past 12 months, there has been a real demand for quality tablets under the £200 price point. Android is gobbling up market share as their Google Nexus 7 offers a quad core performing Asus tablet, with the latest Android Jelly Bean OS for just £159. In comparison, Apple’s lowest priced iPad currently costs £329; more than double the price of the 8GB Google Nexus 7.

The reason for an Apple iPad Mini release is to offer a tablet that competes with the affordable tablet price point. With rumours suggesting an 8GB iPad Mini could be available for just £199, can Apple afford to go this low? Popular releases such as the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 are sold to customers at close to cost price. The money is then clawed back through app and multimedia purchases. Considering Apple have the most successful App Store of all time with close to 30 billion historic downloads, an Apple iPad Mini release would certainly help rake in extra after sales profits on the App Store.

So there’s a round-up of the rumours around next Tuesday’s Apple press event. Should an Apple iPad Mini release take place, we anticipate it to be one of the big sellers at Christmas. Pop back next week for the all the official details.
