Apple iPhone 5 rumours - what features to expect

Apple iPhone 5 rumours - what features to expect

There’s so much excitement around the Apple iPhone 5 rumours, particularly around when it will be released and which new features it may have. I’m sure you’re as anxious as we are to find out if the latest phone from Apple will live up to your expectations. So if you are considering getting the new Apple iPhone 5 when it’s released we’ve put together this rumours guide to see if the new handset features are things that would make you want to trade in your existing mobile when it becomes available.

So what has been rumoured?

The camera on our smartphone has become one of the most important aspects to our mobile experience, so let’s first take a look at the iPhone 5 rumours which suggest that there will be some significant improvements to its camera.

Apple iPhone 5 Photo features

Apple iPhone 5 rumours - cameraSome rumours state that the Apple iPhone 5 will come equipped with an 8.0 megapixel camera while others claim it could be as much as 12.6 megapixels. Many were surprised that the iPhone 4 only featured a 5 megapixel camera, so an increase to the power of the camera would be gladly received. Other possible improvements which have been hinted at are that Apple’s latest iPhone will include dual LED flash and a superior image sensor, which would resolve the previous iPhone models difficulty with low light photography. New panoramic imaging features with the ability to perform instant panoramic shots could also be expected. With the simplicity of uploading photos to social networking sites such as Facebook from your iPhone, and the multitude of photography and imaging apps available, any of these improvements would make extremely popular additions to the iPhone 5.

Apple iPhone 5 Video features

The big rumor surrounding video recording features on the Apple iPhone 5 is that will be capable of full HD video capture and playback at 1080p, with capture rates of up to sixty frames per second. The majority of these rumours surround the fact that since Apple has already worked with OmniVision, who are the company behind the iPhone 4 camera, there is a good chance that they will stick with them for the Apple iPhone 5. Omnivision have recently released the OV12825 image sensor, which if built into the iPhone 5, could see Apples latest phone featuring one of the most powerful cameras in the smartphone market.

Apple iPhone 5 processor features

The engine and brain behind the iPhone 5 is also strongly rumoured to change, bringing with it more power and potential. With the Apple iPhone 4, Apple used the same 1GHz A4 processor that was found in its iPad and it seems the same is to be expected with the iPhone 5, which would lead us to believe it will feature the dual core A5 processor as found in Apples iPad 2. If these rumours surrounding the processor are true, then better multi-tasking, a lightening fast user experience, improved graphics and the release of more powerful apps will all be possible. The iPhone 5 has a whole host of smartphone rivals to compete with and with phone such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 already featuring a dual core processor, it is important that the iPhone 5 delivers in the processor department.

Apple iPhone 5 design features

The iPhone 3G/3GS famously traded its rounded, plastic frame for a slimmer, squared, stainless steel and glass design on the Apple iPhone 4.  But what changes in appearance and design are we to expect with the iPhone 5? The Wall Street Journal and Endgadget commented that from their sources they believe the Apple iPhone 5 will feature a different form factor, suggesting a brand new design.  Wall Street added that the iPhone 5 will feature an even thinner and lighter design than the iPhone 4.  One thing is for sure, from the horrendous problems Apple suffered with the antenna and signal issues on the iPhone 4, more care will be taken in the efficiency and practicality of the new design.

Other key rumours include a larger screen with thinner bezel, which will certainly alter the ‘look’ of the iPhone 5 with the screen set to almost completely take over the front of the smartphone.  An all metal back has also been tipped, reminiscent of the original iPhone which would solve the issue of unpleasant cracks on the glass back of the iPhone 4.  As with all the other elements of the Apple iPhone 5, we are left guessing but its safe to say that whatever the design Apple choose for their next release, it won’t be lacking in style!

Apple iPhone 5 iOS5 features

Apple iPhone 5 rumours - IOS 5

Apple are boasting ‘more than 200 new features’ that will come with their latest operating system, which will be the platform that the iPhone 5 runs on.  Although some of them such as an integrated official Twitter app are hardly groundbreaking, there are other inclusions that warrant more excitement.  The newsstand app will organise all your magazine and newspaper app subscriptions in one place, with automatic updates, as Apple say “like having the paper delivered to your front door. Only better.”  Another welcome and fantastic addition is iMessage, what can be looked at as Apples answer to BlackBerry messenger.  iMessage allows you to send unlimited texts, photos, videos and more via Wi-Fi or 3G to all other iOS5 users, including group messaging.  A final mention goes to the notification center feature, which will show all your notifications, texts, calls, updates and more in one convenient location.

More to come on iOS5 features as we hear about them but it certainly seems that Apple are working on further improving the user experience, convenience and accessibility.  A welcome improvement for all of us patiently awaiting their new release.

Apple iPhone 5 release date rumours

If like me you have been excitedly following all the news and rumours surrounding Apple’s upcoming release of the iPhone 5, then you will have also been taking interest in any rumoured release dates.  Frustratingly, nothing has been officially confirmed yet but there have been strong rumours and apparent ‘inside info’ popping up for some time now:-

**June/July – **This was the first launch date period that everyone expected.  Late June or July, is historically the time in which Apple have released their previous iPhone models, however it was not to be this year.  Reasons given for this delayed release included problems with suppliers and design issues but perhaps this is a strategic move from Apple?

September 7th – The month of September has been the strongest rumour for the release date of the iPhone 5, with many of this speculation surrounding Apple’s next big meeting on September 7th.  This has previously been used to announce changes or updates with the Apple iPod range, however there is a lot of expectation that Apple will use this date to unveil and release the iPhone 5.  Other sources suggest that this may not be used to announce the Apple iPhone 5 but may in fact be used to confirm the specification and features of Apple’s latest smartphone, further building hype.  September would also go hand in hand with the release of iOS5, the latest iPhone operating system, so this month looks likely.

October or later? – Apple are the kings of marketing, PR and hype and if anything, all the tension, articles, rumours and speculation purely build excitement and added interest to their upcoming release. With the original speculated release of July well and truly behind us, as well as leaked information on the web, stating company product release timelines list the Apple iPhone 5 for an October release date, we could have a longer wait to come.

**** UPDATE **** – The website Boy Genius Report have revealed that one of their AT&T sources, (American phone network) have said that their employees have been informed by the company’s vice president to expect the iPhone 5 in October. The same VP has also instructed his staff that the next 35-50 days are going to be extremely busy and teams should be prepared accordingly. With still no official mention from Apple and the expected announcement date of September 7th looming ever closer, an October release date looks more likely than ever.
