ASUS introduces the ZenPad 7.0, which is the smallest tablet in its ZenPad range and also the cheapest. There is a serious amount of ‘bang for your buck’ here, so shoppers in money saving mode should read on.

Zen philosophy

Harmonious beauty and functionality combine in ASUS’s interpretation of the Zen philosophy.

This is actually one of the better looking tablets out there, but don’t tell Samsung, who may be annoyed to see yet another manufacturer opting for a patterned leather look which featured on the Galaxy S5. At least when LG went down the leather route with the LG G4, it opted for genuine leather! You can even check out our LG G4 black leather deals here!

Regardless of this, the look is appealing and it is accentuated further by a premium looking metallic band looping around the sides. An oleophobic coating repels grubby fingerprints, so this is an ideal tablet for couples with young children!

The 7” display on the ASUS ZenPad 7.0 has a sharp resolution, making it both functional and beautiful, not to mention superb for all of those videos you’ll have stored on it for your travels. ASUS has even crammed in its own VisualMaster technology which provides better performance with all different kinds of video playback.

The final Zen characteristics include soothing audio delivered over a great set of speakers (which rival even some flagship offerings) and mid-range photography captured through a 5 megapixel main camera lens or 0.3 megapixel selfie snapper.

If you think that the ZenPad may weigh you down then think again. The slimline 8.7mm thick body weighs in at only 272 grams. That means it’s lighter than this Dairy Milk chocolate bar, although if you eat too many of these then your own slimline figure may not hang around for long!

## Zen UI with Android

Here comes the ‘bang!’. The ASUS ZenPad comes with the latest version of Google’s operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop. This delivers more Google services than you can shake a stick at and to ensure they run smoothly, there is a fancy quad-core processor under the hood.

The Zen UI is also full of goodies and these include ZenMotion, which instantly wakes up and opens an app from the sleep screen when a corresponding letter is drawn on the screen. Six of these are pre-set, but knowledge of the alphabet is all that is need to set up more gestures for instant app access.

Further to the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS functionality is SnapView. This can essentially be thought of as a new user account, where private space is allocated for storing all of those apps and files you’ll no doubt be wanting. These are invisible to other users of the tablet and these SnapView accounts are easily accessed by entering different lock screen patterns, so those guilty pleasures can be kept secret!

Pitched as the world’s first tablet with functional coloured cases, the ASUS ZenPad 7.0 can have its features enhanced with the purchase of a variety of cases:

1. ASUS Zen Clutch – This case offers the ZenPad protection and style with a fine leather finish. The folding design of this case creates a stand for typing or simply for watching videos.
2. ASUS Zen Case – There is no added functionality with case, just a splash of colour with shades of either white, black, blue, orange or aurora metallic.
3. ASUS Power Case – This case boosts the existing ‘up to’ 8 hours of battery life by another ‘up to’ 14 hours of use.
4. ASUS Audio Cover – This case gives audio playback some serious power with 5.1 surround sound and 6 hours of continuous use.

Unfortunately, there is no case that incorporates all of these functions in one. So just like your shirt, you will need to select your sleeves carefully depending upon your next life event!
