Mindblown! The Craziest Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2014: The Samsung Galaxy S5 has arrived! If you’re interesting in picking up the phone on contract, check out our cheap Samsung Galaxy S5 deals here. Alternatively you can read more about the new phone in our Galaxy S5 vs HTC One M8 review.
With some of the crazy Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours we’ve clapped eyes on, including flexible screens and iris scanners, the S5 is set to be one of Samsung’s best smartphones yet.
Here is just a selection of the best Galaxy S5 features we’ve spotted so far…
Specialist Galaxy S5 eye scanner
We’ve seen the iPhone 5s’ impressive fingerprint scanner, but now it looks like Samsung aims to go one step further, introducing a retina scanner to the Galaxy S5.
The feature would make the device one of the most secure smartphones on the market, allowing only the registered user to unlock the phone.
Many sources are already disputing whether we’ll actually see a retina scanner on the Samsung Galaxy S5, or whether a traditional fingerprint scanner will be built into the smartphone instead. But recently leaked patents for an eye scanner suggest Samsung will push the boat out in an attempt to get one over Apple…
Samsung flexible screen technology
Another feature destined for is flexible screen technology. Samsung unveiled the creation at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, and until now we’ve still not caught a glimpse of such a device.
Could 2014 be the year? We’ve seen the Samsung Galaxy Round with its curved display, but could we see the Galaxy S5 sport a flexible screen?

There are a number of artists’ impressions that depict the S5 in this way, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for now!
S5 designed with diamond-coated stainless steel?
We’ve seen LG’s scratch-proof casing on the G Flex, but Samsung is taking it one step further, creating a premium version of the Galaxy S5 in diamond-coated metal.
The phone will be Samsung’s first experiment with diamond metal surface technology which it’s rumoured to be dabbling with, and in theory should make the phone indestructible (well, as far as scuffs and scratches go, at least).
This will also represent a ginormous move for Samsung fans, who have been hankering after a metal-bodied Samsung smartphone for some time.
20 megapixel camera phone
Samsung appears to be taking tips from Nokia with the S5’s camera, pumping up its snapper’s megapixel count to 20. Although a 16MP camera lens has been hinted at, a whopping 20MP rear-facing camera is far more than we were expecting.
The Galaxy S4’s 13 megapixel camera did nothing to disappoint, so the same Samsung camera features on top of a 20 megapixel lens can only mean one thing- the Samsung Galaxy S5 camera is going to be incredible!
Brand new interface: the end of TouchWiz?
The latest Galaxy S5 rumours that have come to light also include a change to Samsung’s familiar TouchWiz user interface, which currently sits on top of Google’s Android operating system.
Leaked images depict the S5’s interface as rather Windows Phone-like, with live tiles rather than traditional static icons.

As HTC did with the HTC One, a new interface could revolutionise the look and feel of the S5, making it Samsung’s most exciting flagship smartphone yet.
Rapid charging battery?
Another one of the craziest Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours lies in its battery. Not only is the S5 tipped to have a more powerful battery than the Galaxy S4, but it is also said to feature rapid charging technology, meaning you can charge it from 0 to 100% in just 2 hours!
Now this might not be as good as making your S5 battery last as long as your old Nokia 3210 might have, but knowing you can be topped up to full in just a matter of hours would be a vast improvement for all smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy S5: could it be the best smartphone ever?
Leaked images, features and specs for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 all hint that the device could be the best smartphone of 2014 at the very least. But how realistic are these rumours; are they simply a wish list compiled by enthusiastic Samsung fans?
We’ve seen Apple launch its flagship smartphone with a high-tech fingerprint scanner built into the home button, so why wouldn’t we see a fully-fledged iris scanner in the Galaxy S5? And with Nokia camera phones sporting 41 megapixel lenses, what’s to say the S5 couldn’t have a 20MP snapper?
Word on the street is that we’ll spot the Galaxy S5 sometime over the next few months, which will help us discover whether these crazy rumours are just that, or whether Samsung has truly outdone itself with its latest smartphone release.
Do you think that Samsung is on its way to taking over the world? With the S5, it looks like this might be the case!
