Google Pixel 6a: Top five features

Google’s Pixel 6a is the budget-premium smartphone in the Pixel 6 range, and it brings with it several useful and exciting features. In this guide, we highlight the top five features of the Pixel 6a and how these make it stand out in the smartphone market.

The Pixel 6a can be ordered from us in a range of colour options and with 128GB of internal storage.

Excellent processing performance

The Pixel 6a greatly impresses with its processing performance, loading apps and games in seconds. This is possible by sharing the same Tensor chip as the mid-range Pixel 6 and premium Pixel 6 Pro. Google’s decision to share the same chipset across the Pixel 6 range means the 6a only has to make cuts in areas that have a minimal impact on performance, making it both powerful and affordable.

HDR OLED display

Whilst the Pixel 6a’s 60Hz refresh rate is lower than what some smartphones are including, its HDR OLED display is an incredible visual treat. With its 1080p HD resolution, photos, videos, and games burst with colour and have contrasts much closer to what the human eye sees.

This is demonstrated when taking photos with the Pixel 6a’s excellent cameras. Each shot showcases detail without the blurriness or noise distortion lower quality displays can struggle with.

Brilliant cameras & editing tools

The Pixel range of smartphones feature some of the best cameras on the market. With the Pixel 6a, Google has introduced another excellent option for amateur and professional photographers. The camera array consists of a 12.2MP main camera and a 12MP wide-angle lens, to capture excellent landscape and panorama shots.

These cameras alone are great, but what makes the Pixel 6a’s camera excel is its editing suite. Included in this suite is the Magic Eraser tool, which allows the user to remove objects and people from shots with one swipe.

Another superb tool is Real Tone, which produces images with accurate tones in all lighting conditions. No additional input is needed, as Real Tone is built into the camera’s algorithms and automatically adjusts the image.

Ever-excellent Android OS

Android remains an open, easy-to-use operating system, and Android 12 in the Pixel 6a makes some simple but impactful additions to improve the OS. The new dynamic colour feature, Material You, automatically changes the primary and accent colours of your phone’s user interface (UI) based on your wallpaper. It’s a simple feature, but it makes an already beautiful UI even cleaner to use.

There are also new accessibility features that make the Pixel 6a easier to use for disabled users. Area magnification enhances the readability of a section of the screen without blurring the rest of the display. There is also ‘Extra Dim’, which allows the user to reduce the screen brightness lower than the phone’s default minimum.

Constantly evolving

The Pixel 6a is a Google device, meaning security and software updates come to it first. New features and tools are introduced every few months, keeping the Pixel 6a up-to-date with the latest releases.
