Huawei Ascend G7 v Ascend G620
If you’re looking for a budget friendly smartphone which doesn’t break the bank, then look no further than Huawei. With loads of mid-tier and budget handsets on offer, there’s sure to be a Huawei phone suited to you.
And now, Huawei has added two new handsets – the Ascend G7 and the Ascend G620, to the mix to make things just that bit more exciting. So how do the two phones compare? Let’s find out!
Design
At frst glance, it seems that there isn’t many differences between the handsets. But look a little closer and you’ll soon see that the Ascend G7 pips the G620 to the post when it comes to design.
Boasting a humungous 5.5-inch screen, the G7 towers above the still large G620’s 5-inch display. But that’s not the only difference between the two smartphones; the G7 also has a more premium metal finish compared to the G620’s plastic case, which makes it look slightly more iPhone than mid-range Android.

What’s great about the Ascend G7 is that although it sports larger than life 5.5 inch screen, it is also super slim too. Whilst the G620 has a slightly meatier 8.5mm waistline, the G7 wins the day with its 7.6mm thickness, which is unusual for a smartphone with such a big screen.
Specs Under the Hood
When it comes to the specs department, will the Huawei Ascend G620 manage to claw back those points it lost in the design round? The sizeable handset features an impressive quad-core 1.2GHz processor under the hood, which matches the pricier Ascend G7’s effort exactly.
On top of a mighty quad-core processor, the G620 also sports 8GB of internal memory which can be extended to 32GB using a memory card, as well as 1GB of RAM, which should be more than enough to keep you going if you’re typical smartphone user who likes browsing the web, updating your Facebook status and sending the odd Whatsapp message here and there.
At the other end of the scale, the Huawei G7 boasts double the memory count of the G620, offering 16GB of memory and a 2GB RAM, which you would expect from a mid-range phone like the G7. But when you factor in that the G7’s memory can be extended to 32GB just like the Ascend G620, it puts the two smartphones on a more level pegging.
Best Smartphone Camera?
If you are a lover of taking photos, then you’ll be eager to see how the G7 and G620 compare when it comes to their cameras.
The Huawei Ascend G7 sits right at the top of the tree with its 13 megapixel lens which puts it right up there with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4, LG G3 and HTC One mini 2. And the good news doesn’t stop there; Huawei has included tonnes of built in camera features to make the G7 one of the best mid-range camera phones around. With a quick capture function that lets you snap away at the speed of light, and a selfie panoramic feature, any amateur photographer would be in for a treat with the Huawei Ascend G7 camera, especially thanks to the phone’s massive wide angle 5 megapixel selfie lens in tow!
The Huawei G620 on the other hand boasts a slightly smaller camera lens on its back side, measuring 8 megapixels. And while this is smaller than the G7’s megapixel count, it’s by no means tiny, especially for the G620’s price tag! Thankfully the smaller Huawei smartphone also offers a 2 megapixel front facing camera too, keeping all selfie snappers happy!

Key Huawei Features
Android KitKat and User Experience Design
Despite the G7’s Android-like design, both Huawei phones are powered by Google’s Android operating system, with KitKat preloaded onto the two handsets. But any typical Android user might not recognise Google’s traditional icons and buttons on the G7 and G620, thanks to Huawei’s Emotion user interface which has been layered over the top.

And just like Android which is given a new lease of life every year or so, the Emotion UI has also been given a face lift, making both Huawei smartphones more fun and colourful, with squared icons and a very slight iOS 8 feel.
Extreme Battery Life
So you’re half way through an important call with the other half and…your battery dies. But not with the Huawei Ascend G7 or the G620 thanks to their impressive ultra power saving modes! The G620’s 2000mAh cell can be extended to give you a whole week’s worth of standby time on one single charge, whereas the G7 can last for 24 hours on just 10% of power thanks to its Extreme Energy Saving mode. Now you can breathe a sigh of relief and move away from the power socket!**
