Missed Apple's launch event in California this year? Don't worry, we're right here with all the need-to-know details. Three brand-new handsets were announced on September 12th, and today we'll be focusing on the most budget-friendly option from the trio - the iPhone XR.

Liquid Retina LCD Display

If you love large smartphone screens, but you're not after the whopping 6.5-inch display that can be found on the iPhone XS Max, then the iPhone XR offers the perfect middle ground. Measuring 6.1 inches and following in the footsteps of the iPhone X with an absent home button, it's the ideal size for streaming videos, editing photos, playing games or using Apple's amazing collection of AR apps.

The iPhone XR is the first, and only, Apple handset to use Liquid Retina technology. The most advanced LCD screen out there, the XR is incredibly detailed whilst TrueTone ensures colours always appear vibrant and true-to-life.

A12 Bionic Chip

Every single year Apple ups its game, and this year is no exception. Bringing an all-new chip to the next generation of iPhones. The iPhone XR benefits from an A12 Bionic chip, that's 15% faster than the previous A11 Bionic chip and much more efficient, using up to 50% less power. It's an industry-first too, measuring just 7 nanometres.

Working with the on-board 8-core Neural Engine, it's safe to say the iPhone XR can handle whatever you throw at it with ease. It takes everything in its stride.

There's plenty to shout about under the hood of the XR too. You can choose from three different models, offering 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of storage space. As for the battery, the all-glass design supports wireless charging and you can fast-charge the device to 50% in just 30 minutes too.

Two groundbreaking cameras

Budding photographers won't be disappointed by the iPhone XRs on-board cameras. While the iPhone XS and XS Max boast a dual-lens rear camera, the more affordable XR has a single-lens 12MP camera with a f/1.8 wide-angle lens. You can still expect high-quality snaps even in low light, and thanks to Apple's Depth Control feature you'll even be able to adjust the depth of field.

You can easily create a bokeh effect with the improved Portrait mode too, and the primary camera is also capable of 4K video recording.

The front-facing camera, meanwhile, is what makes Animoji and Face ID all possible. The 7MP Truth Depth camera system works in harmony with the Neural Engine to deliver the most secure facial authentication ever that's even faster than before. It'll take amazing selfies too, with Smart HDR bringing more highlight and shadow detail to every snap.

IP67 water (coffee, tea and juice) resistant

Just like the iPhone X, the iPhone XR has a splash, dust and water IP67 water rating. Durable glass and an aerospace-grade aluminium band make the iPhone XR seriously hard wearing, and it can survive in 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes.

Even better, the iPhone XR won't break down if you spill coffee, tea, juice or other liquids on it - great news for Apple lovers who are a little bit clumsy.

Memoji with iOS12

The iPhone XR comes with Apple's latest operating system, iOS 12, pre-loaded. Taking one of last year's most loved features - Animoji - to the next level, you'll now be able to create a Memoji that looks exactly like you.

Using the iPhone XR's TrueDepth camera system, you can change your character's skin tone, hair colour, features and more. Once you open your Memoji in the Messages app, your head will then be replaced by your own animated Memoji character - it works in a similar way to a Snapchat filter. Record 30 second clips, take photos and more - this new feature promises to deliver hours of fun.

You won't be able to get your hands on the iPhone XR until Friday 26th October, but pre-orders will go live a week earlier on Friday 19th October. Bookmark the date, take your pick from five different colour options (coral, blue, red, white and black) and make sure you return to e2Save to get your hands on an amazing deal.
