Is the HTC Incredible S really that Incredible?
So in the wake of Mobile World Congress we are left with a slew of new phones ready to be gawked at. And no other manufacturer gave us more to look at than HTC, with its new tablet and four new phones.
Today though we are going to focus on one in particular, the HTC Incredible. Taking notes from its American pre decessor the ‘HTC Droid Incredible’, the Incredible S is definitely a good looking phone with a flush screen and impressive hardware. Add in an updated Snapdragon chipset, an Andreno 250 GPU and throw in a bit more RAM and you start to see that the Incredible S is a bit of a powerhouse.
This little power boost does make the Incredible S an attractive prospect; that is until you take a minute to see what other handsets are coming out at the same time. With Dual core processors and 3D screens on our doorstep, is the Incredible S’s mini power boost enough to contend with the likes of the LG Optimus 2X or Motorola Atrix? Our gut instinct says no.
On the other hand it depends on what you’re looking for. Whilst not containing a dual core processor the Incredible S is by no means slow and provides a slick and smooth user experience. And that’s not all that’s slick and smooth about the Incredible S. The Back of the phone is smothered in a smooth and soft rubber which looks like its been shrink wrapped round the phones innards. Whilst not to everyone’s tastes it gives the Incredible a nice industrial look and makes it feel great in the hand, which is always a good thing.
An 8.0 megapixel is on board with dual LED’s so the Incredible S is at least packing some heavy imagery hardware. There’s also HTC’s latest version of HTC Sense and Android 2.2 (froyo) inside so you are at the very least assured of a good operating system with even better updates to come.
By all accounts the Incredible S is an accomplished all round Android phone and is by no means a low end device, it isn’t even mid range and in some areas (like its camera and quirky design) will still be comparable against some of the best out there. Unfortunately though Cameras and quirks just aren’t going to be able to compete with dual core processors or 3D screens and for that reason we have to say that this HTC device is more credible than incredible.
