7 things we miss about our BlackBerry mobile

**With the launch of the new BlackBerry Classic, we’ve found ourselves starting to get nostalgic about the handset that helped kickstart the smartphone revolution. **

So let’s take a trip down memory lane, as we reminisce over the best things about the BlackBerry…

The BlackBerry keyboard!

Admit it, there’s few out there who prefer their touch screen keyboards as much as the classic physical keys which were the symbol of the BlackBerry.

OK, so the tap-tap-tapping was hardly discreet, but the click of each key was strangely satisfying…

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM)

What would we have done without BBM? In the days when unlimited texts couldn’t be taken for granted, BlackBerry Messenger brought us a free alternative to the classic text message. Granted, BBM would only work if you were communicating with another BlackBerry user, but who didn’t have a BlackBerry phone circa 2010?

Luckily for us we can download BBM on our Androids, Windows Phones and iPhones, but it’s just not quite the same as with a classic BB is it?

The red notification light

We never thought we’d admit to this one- but that little red flashing light is one of the main things we miss about our BlackBerrys.

There was even an app which let you change the colour of the light depending on who was texting!

It was unbreakable!

blackberry build

With today’s smartphones sporting 5-6 inch screens, it’s no surprise that half of them end up smashed to pieces- but not with the BlackBerry.

Admittedly most BlackBerry phones only had a 2 inch display which made it harder to break, but with the rubber edges and plastic casing, you could drop your handset from any height and it would almost always bounce back!

You were one of the cool kids

Let’s face it: anyone who was anyone had a BlackBerry back in 2010. Whether you were sporting the latest BlackBerry Curve or BlackBerry Bold, you were part of the ‘In*’* crowd.

With thousands of personalised BlackBerry cases available, there was no end to the customisation you could make over your BlackBerry with to stay in trend.

It was fool proof

Another great thing about the classic smartphone from BlackBerry was the fact that it was simple. None of this complicated swiping and endless home screens, the BlackBerry did exactly what you expected it to. Wanted to call someone? Just press the big green phone button. Need to hit the BB World? Click on the dedicated button- easy!

Ka Glom!

And last but not least is Ka Glom! OK, you might not recognise the name but you’re sure to recognise the brightly coloured Tetris/Bejewelled-style game that keep thousands of bored thumbs busy back in the day.

If you weren’t a Ka Glom fan, perhaps Solitaire was more to your fancy?
