Gaming keeps on getting bigger, with 2020 being the best year yet for the industry. Mobile gaming is booming too, and thanks to its popularity you can expect plenty of new releases on throughout 2021. Here's just a handful of our favourites to get excited about below.

Tomb Raider Reloaded

Available on: iOS and Android

Expected sometime in 2021, Tomb Raider Reloaded is the franchise's next venture into the world of mobile gaming. Coinciding with Lara Croft's 25th anniversary, this action-arcade game is sure to be a hit with old and new fans alike.

From what we've seen so far, Tomb Raider Reloaded deviates from the darker, grittier themes found on past games and leans towards a more fantasy-focused plotline. We know Lara will continue on her adventures, battling beasts like giant spiders, rock monsters and even a T-Rex as she explores tombs. Thanks to the slightly cuter, animated style, the game will be much more accessible for younger players too.

Tomb Raider Reloaded will be free to play, with in-app purchases expected but not yet confirmed.

Apex Legends Mobile

Available on: iOS and Android

Announced by EA in 2020, the first look at Apex Legends Mobile will be officially coming to Android and iOS in 2021. The Beta version of the game is projected to be released in 2021, with the regular release likely to follow shortly after - predictions expect this to be late 2021, or very early in 2022.

After the success EA had with Apex Legends on PS4 and Xbox, it was only a matter of time until this top-selling battle royale game made its way to mobile. Much like the original, Apex Legends Mobile will be a first-person shooter hero game based in the Frontier. You'll have to pick your character (known as a Legend), team up with other players to create the ultimate squad. Choose your combined skills wisely and then get ready to head out and battle other teams for fame, fortune and glory.

It's likely Apex Legends will be a free-to-play game, similar to other battle royale games like Fortnite and Call of Duty that have been adapted for mobile.

Pokémon Unite

Available on: iOS and Android

If you love MOBA (Multiple Online Battle Arena) games, and you love Pokémon, then you're in for a treat with Pokémon Unite. The first of its kind for the franchise, The Pokémon Company has teamed up with Tencent and TiMi Studios to develop this highly anticipated strategy game.

Based on the information released so far, you'll find yourself in 5-on-5 battles. Partnering with other players, you'll need to defeat the opposing team in order to claim or destroy specific spots on the Pokémon Unite map. During each battle you'll have a chance to capture new Pokémon, level up and even evolve your current Pokémon, meaning you'll eventually be able to battle with the likes of Blastoise, Venusaur and Charizard too. Other fan favourites confirmed include Pikachu, Snorlax, Gengar and Machamp.

Pokémon Unite will be free to play on both Android and iOS when it's released, however some in-app purchases will be available.

NieR Re[in]carnation

Available on: iOS and Android

New from video game directors Yoko Taro and Daichi Matsukawa, NieR Re[in]carnation is the next instalment to the already-successful NieR Automata. The NieR series overall has been a big hit in the Western world in recent years, and is a spin-off from the cult franchise Drakengard that's incredibly popular in Japan.

Coming in 2021 to Japan, America and across Europe, NieR Re[in]carnation is an ethereal RPG, led by a floating ghost-like character named Mama. You'll find yourself placed in a world known as The Cage, and your mission is to collect pieces of "weapon's memories".

The game artfully combines 3D renders and 2D gameplay, and as you progress through the game, battling foes and solving problems, the mystery of Mama and The Cage will all become clear.
