Why Motorola's Moto E is Great Value for Money

**Whilst we all love our shiny flagship phones, sometimes we need a smartphone that offers better value for money, a handset that doesn’t set us back £500. **Motorola may have just come to the rescue with its recently released Moto E smartphone which has a price tag of just £89!

But just because the Moto E comes with a miniature price tag, it doesn’t mean that it has a miniature set of specs. Here’s why the Moto E is great value for money.

Classic Motorola Design

Motorola was one of the pioneers of the mobile phone industry; in fact, it was making mobile phones whilst Apple and Samsung were in their technological nappies so to speak. So, it’s no surprise to see Motorola’s latest phones sport the design that has become synonymous with the manufacturer.

Featuring an array of brilliant colours, the Moto E gives you the chance to express your creativity through interchangeable ‘shells’, giving us that retro feel from back in our Nokia 3310 days.

The overall design is pretty simple otherwise, with the front side of the handset dominated by the 4.3” display. On the flip side you’ll find only the 5 megapixel snapper, with all of the other buttons and ports making their way onto the edge of the handset. Despite featuring a removable back case, the Moto E also feels surprisingly well built, and whilst it certainly can’t compete with the likes of the HTC One M8’s metallic case, it still stands up for itself on the design front.

Moto E Specs

If you’re worried about the Moto E’s price tag knocking its performance then you needn’t be, as the budget handset actually offers a deceptively impressive level of performance. This is thanks to the inclusion of a Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB RAM and a dual-core 1.2GHz processor. Whilst for the tech heads out there this makes perfect sense, for those not in the know, this basically means that the Moto E will run sharply and efficiently in spite of its suggestively slow price tag.

Also, if battery life is your main quarrel with today’s smartphones then you should be kept happy with the Moto E, which offers a full day’s battery life, so you won’t be left out to dry if you don’t carry a charger with you all the time.

Up to Date Android Software

One problem that has always dogged budget smartphones is software niggles which tend not to get sorted out because it isn’t as popular as more expensive models. But this won’t be the case with the Moto E thanks to the smartphone featuring Android’s latest 4.4.2 KitKat update right out of the box.

Also, Motorola is currently guaranteeing an update to the Moto E’s software when the next adaptation of Android makes its way onto the shelves. This covers users who buy now for around 18-24 months, and will also offer a brand new interface and series of updated features. Simply put, if you invest in the Motorola Moto E, you won’t be left with an outdated phone come this time next year. In fact, you’ll be one of the first to pick up Android’s long awaited 5.0 software, definitely something to look forward to!

Motorola Snapper

Cameras are now a hugely important part of our smartphones, and whilst you won’t be getting the latest high megapixel snapper on the Moto E, you definitely won’t be disappointed either. Featuring a 5 megapixel lens, you can actually get some very nice pictures with the Motorola, despite not boasting as much quality as the flagship smartphones out there.

The omission of a secondary lens and flash is slightly confusing, but for its price, we can’t say we’re surprised to see some features fail to make the cut. But even without these features, the quality of the lens is still fairly impressive.

Verdict

If you need a phone to tide you over, or if you fancy saving some cash by not investing in a flagship smartphone, then the Moto E is the perfect solution. Pricing up at just £89 sim free, you can’t moan about its potential damage to your bank account, especially with the impressive set of specs it boasts.

The design is as good as ever, also allowing for you to customise it to your own taste, and the software is a guaranteed winner. The camera does its job well, despite not featuring a second lens or flash.

All in all, for a sub-£100 smartphone, the Moto E is by far the best in its class and truly offers great value for money. In fact there are lot of worse ways to spend £100 if you ask us!
