No, we’re not on about musical tastes here – instead, we’re talking about Samsung’s decision to finally move onto metal build with the Galaxy S6. Leaving the S5’s rubberised design behind, we’re getting our hands on a more premium looking device with the S6.

The change in material does come at a cost – namely in the loss of the S5’s much-loved IP68 water and dust protection, MicroSD card slot and removable battery. Admittedly, this will only upset a few users out there, and the overall improvement in style should win more fans than it loses.

The introduction of the metallic frame has also slimmed down the S6 to a measly 6.8mm (with the S5 previously sizing up at 8.1mm). This isn’t the only change either, as the device is actually a decent chunk lighter than before as well, making the S6 catwalk-ready at 138g.

The new Samsung phone also keeps the same sized display as the Galaxy S5, but it packs plenty more power (which we’ll get onto later!). You also won’t be disappointed with the array of colours up for grabs, with white, black, blue and gold all available, giving the S6 the same selection as the S5.

Winner:

**Galaxy S6 – **Whilst the S5 was definitely more practical, we don’t think we’ll be criticised too much by saying that the S6 is the best looking Samsung smartphone ever.

Spec-tacular Galaxy S6 vs S5!

S6 Black

It doesn’t matter how good a smartphone looks – if it struggles to handle menial tasks, then it won’t be finding its way into people’s pockets. Lucky for us then, the Galaxy S6 really puts its best foot forward with its internal components!

You might be questioning that 5.1” display we mentioned earlier – especially considering that it’s an identical size to the Samsung Galaxy S5. However, Samsung has pushed the boat out by giving us a Super AMOLED QHD version of the screen on the Galaxy S6, making it ridiculously sharp.

This means that gaming, videos and even just general day to day use of the S6 is nothing short of a drool-inducing experience. Whilst it might boost the cost of the handset, we can guarantee that it’s worth it.

Other internal specs have also seen marked improvements, with the Exynos 7420 chipset, octa-core processor and 3GB RAM all proving more powerful than their S5 counterparts. On top of this, Samsung has also ditched the S5’s 16GB storage option in favour of 32GB/64GB/128GB variants, meaning you’ll never run out of room again (which is lucky considering the S6 no longer has a removable SD card like the S5!).

Finally, Samsung has also added several brand new features with the S6 – with Samsung Pay, wireless charging and fast charge capabilities. All of these were previously unavailable on the S5, making the S6 a much more attractive proposition.

Winner:

**Galaxy S6 – **It’s two in a row for the new Samsung phone! It would be a travesty for Samsung to cheap out on the S6 specs sheet, and it’s definitely an improvement over the S5, making the new Samsung flagship one of the most powerful phones on the market. Also, with feature like Samsung Pay and wireless charging to play with, you can’t go wrong with the Galaxy S6!

Samsung Galaxy Camera Comparison

S6 vs S5 Camera

Whilst the improvements have been obvious in other areas of the Galaxy S6, we get some fairly modest changes when it comes down to the Samsung Galaxy S6 camera. Samsung has decided to stick with the 16 megapixel rating from the Galaxy S5, but it still performs brilliantly when put under the spotlight.

Many of the changes have come in the software department, allowing the S6 camera app to open up at breakneck speeds (0.7s to be precise). Also, Samsung has improved the aperture of the camera to allow for better shots in low-light situations, and even sneakily took a shot at Apple by comparing it to the iPhone 6 Plus during its launch.

Selfie lovers will be happy to see that Samsung has boosted the 2 megapixel front facing lens from the S5 to a 5 megapixel effort on the S6 as well. This should mean that your Facebook feed will be stuffed with more selfies than ever if your friends are all Samsung fans!

Winner:

**Galaxy S6…again – **Not as clear cut as before, but Samsung has definitely improved on the S5’s camera with the Galaxy S6. It might not look like a huge difference on paper, but the S6 camera is much more streamlined in practice, topping off our Samsung Galaxy S6 vs S5 battle.

Samsung Galaxy S6 or S5? Our Verdict

It’s a clean sweep for the Galaxy S6! Offering a shiny new metal design, improved specs, better features and an improved camera, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the winner of this S6 vs S5 comparison.

Whilst it’s a shame that Samsung has left off some key features from the Samsung Galaxy S5, the overall improvements transferred onto the new Samsung phone far outweigh these absences. You can, however, expect to pay a bit more cash for the new Samsung smartphone, so if you fancy making a saving, you could always opt for the older device instead.

See if you can pick up a bargain by opting for the Samsung Galaxy S5!
