Smartphone highlights from CES 2012

Smartphone highlights from CES 2012

The International Consumer Electronics Show is currently underway in Las Vegas. As many of the latest smartphones are unveiled for the first time, we’re just too excited to uncover what 2012 has to offer. In our special CES highlights blog, we hedge our bets on which devices we think will pay a visit to the UK…. we’re feeling lucky.

Nokia Lumia 900

Nokia-Lumia-900-blog-image The latest addition to the Nokia Lumia family, the Lumia 900, is big brother to the Lumia 800. With a larger 4.3 inch AMOLED Clear Black Screen and larger battery, the Nokia Lumia 900 could dazzle the Windows Phone platform to dizzy heights. Our favourite feature on the Nokia Lumia 900 is the inclusion of a front facing camera. This makes the Lumia 900 great for video calls. Designed with a large aperture to let more light in, the Nokia Lumia 900 also boasts a wide angle lens so you cram even more of your friends into your outgoing video call.

Motorola Droid 4

Launched at CES as the the thinnest 4G QWERTY smartphone, the Motorola Droid 4 offers a slide out, LED lit, five row keyboard within its half an inch thick design. Built with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, Motorola has promised the Droid 4 will be upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich, so you can munch your way through the latest applications to hit the Android Market. With 16GB internal memory and expandable memory of up to 32GB via microSD card, you’ll never be short of space on this ultimate multi-tasking smartphone.

Sony Xperia S

Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-S-blog-image Sony appears to have removed the Ericsson from the names of their latest smartphones as the Sony Xperia S looks set to excite fans with their latest 4.3 inch smartphone. Built with 1 GB RAM and a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, the Sony Xperia S will dance through its Android Gingerbread tasks with so much agility and grace, it will demand an encore to flaunt its true potential! The top trump for the Xperia S is its 12 megapixel camera which offers 16 x digital zoom and 1080p HD video recording and playback. With HDMI support and Bluetooth 3.0, sharing that embarrassing video has never been so easy!

Sony Xperia Ion

Another phone from the Sony Xperia range introduced in Vegas was the Ion.  The mountainous 4.6 inch capacitive touchscreen is set to stun with its HD reality display. As with the Xperia S, the Ion will host a powerhouse of hardware (1.5 GHz, 1GB RAM, 12 megapixel camera). Though both models will have front facing cameras for video calls, the Sony Xperia Ion will record your front facing portfolio videos in a glorious 720p. This is a feature we don’t think we’ve seen in any other smartphone to date. We can’t wait to get our hands on either of these Sony Xperia models!

We’ve rolled the dice, and chosen the smartphones we think will arrive in the UK in 2012. Time will tell if our Vegas CES fortunes come true or turn to an unlucky spin on the roulette wheel.
