Have you been searching for a mobile phone that you can throw around, use in the rain and generally mistreat? Well, such a phone might be on the horizon so we feel it is time to take a look at the top 5 rugged phones and ask is the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active the toughest smartphone yet?

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active

First of all we take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active which is expected to hit E2Save’s shelves sometime in May or June. While the specific details are yet to have been officially confirmed we have kept an ear to the ground and can paint a pretty accurate picture from what we have heard.

Certification is the first thing buyers should look out for when it comes to your toughened smartphone favourites, and thankfully the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will be IP67 certified meaning it is impervious to dust and resistant to water at up to 1 metre for 30 minutes.

If IP67 certification fails to impress then how about a military standard? MIL-STD-810G certified, the S6 Active can resist everything from salt to humidity, solar radiation, vibration and thermal shock!

That’s some serious bragging rights to have and if that wasn’t enough then the remaining features will simply blow you away. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protects the 5.1” with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and the latest Android Lollipop OS gives a great experience. A 2.1GHz octa-core processor with 3GB RAM (higher RAM means better performance) is only outshone by the 16MP camera and 5MP selfie cam.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is simply a toughened up version of the Galaxy S6 and whilst you won’t find any certifications this phone does have Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which you could jump up and down on without damage, although we don’t recommend it!

LG G Flex 2

The LG G Flex 2 is well deserving consideration as its curved form blended with Corning Gorilla Glass makes it 30% more likely to survive a drop. On the back there is a self healing coating to repair minor scratches caused by, for example, your keys in you bag.

The feature set is pretty impressive as well and includes a very large 5.5” display, 64-bit octa-core processor with 2GB RAM, Android Lollipop OS, 13MP camera and 2.1MP selfie cam.

Sony Xperia Z3

The Sony Xperia Z3 mans up with IP 65/68 certification and this allows you to submerse the smartphone to a depth of 1.5 metres while above water it is dust tight. A 2.6GHz quad-core processor with 3GB RAM powers a phone whose 20.7MP camera can be used for underwater photography.

If you are looking for a real bargain then E2Save has a load of cheap deals for this phone due to dropping prices ahead of the Sony Xperia Z4 launch. If you do happen to be holding off for the Xperia Z4 then your underwater smartphone use will no longer need you to fit the waterproofing rubber cap over the microUSB port but this is a small sacrifice for the professional bargain hunter.

Kyocera Torque

The last in our list of the top 5 toughest smartphones is the Kyocera Torque. You cannot get this smartphone in the UK but after speaking to the company’s director E2Save has been assured that a future model will make its way across the water soon.

Kyocera Torque

The Kyocera Torque is MIL-STD-810G certified with IP6X dust proofing and IPX8/5 waterproofing. The 100dB speaker might just damage the users hearing so it is recommended to answer calls with the Smart Sonic Receiver that when pressed against the ear turns sound into vibrations to completely bypass any background noise.

So, will the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active be the toughest phone?

As far as up to date smartphones go it certainly will hold that title in to 2015. Okay so the Kyocera Torque gets close but it has an older OS and generally lower spec sheet so go for the S6 Active or one of the other phones mentioned if you cannot wait until it arrives on our shelves this summer.
