Video calling for the Facebook Messenger app
As most of you Facebook fanatics out there will already know, Facebook recently released their Facebook Messenger app in the US. This has proved to be handy for messaging Facebook friends whilst on the go. It was launched as a messaging service that delivers your messages within a closed network. But it gets better. It seems that the app has been hiding a feature in its code – video calling for the Facebook Messenger app.
It’s likely that video calling will be possible on both Android and iOS devices which will be very exciting and useful. Imagine being able to be on Facebook and also chat through a video calling feature. It’ll certainly make socialising a lot easier from your phone. There is also talk that this new video calling feature will use Skype to power it, in a similar way that the video calling feature on the web version of Facebook uses it. Competitors of Facebook Messenger include Google Plus, which also has a video chat feature and the option to create ‘circles’ and ‘hangouts’ of your friends.
With all of these new developments it seems very likely that video conferencing within the Facebook Messenger app will be launched. However it has not been confirmed when this will be launched as a proper feature. UK Facebook fans are waiting in anticipation for the basic Facebook Messenger app to be available for them to download in the UK. Then the hype for the video calling for the Facebook Messenger app will begin.
What do you think about this new app? Will you be one of the first to download it when it becomes available in the UK?
