Windows 8: An OS for tablets, laptops and desktops
This is a bit exciting! Microsoft have jumped on board and developed an operating system; Windows 8, for desktops, laptops and tablets.
It feels a little like it should have been done before, but, it’s been announced now so we’ll just have to wait and see if it’s everything it promises to be. We know that Android and Apple have got a head start in the market, with the iPad 2 and various Android tablets, but this in no way means that Windows 8 won’t be impressive.
With Windows 8, applications come in the form of tiles that you can swipe from one to another, rather than the traditional windows view and have two applications simultaneously running together on the screen. From this information, you would think that this means that you can do a lot more with a windows 8 tablet?
All anyone has seen is the short Windows 8 demo video, so it’s difficult to judge exactly how everything is going to work, but here at e2save, we can hazard a guess that one advantage might be around multitasking; a thing that is so easy on desktops, but when it comes to tablets or smartphones, it gets a little more challenging.
Apple iPads keep processes open in the background whilst you’re using other apps, but you can only really view one at a time. Android has its widgets for things such as weather etc, but again, it’s only really a one at a time job. If windows 8 on tablets work the same way, then maybe the new interface isn’t that much to shout about.
In our opinion, OS8 is definitely asking more questions than its answering. What will be the first Windows OS tab? Will Microsoft make it? And how will they replicate the tactile feeling of a touchscreen operating system using a mouse and keyboard?
