Xbox App for iOS and Windows Phone 7
Following the latest Xbox 360 dashboard update, Microsoft has launched Xbox apps for both Windows Phone 7 and iOS platforms.
My Xbox Live
The iOS Xbox app, My Xbox Live, follows the latest Xbox Live dashboard update and gives iPhone and iPad users access to three core channels:
– Spotlight – providing articles and videos on the latest news relating to Xbox 360.
– Social – giving users access to view and customise their Xbox avatar, view friends profiles, send messages and setup gaming beacons – announcement to friends that you wish to play certain games online.
– Games – listing the games you’ve played, when you played them and your achievements
Xbox Companion
Xbox Companion is the Xbox app available for the Windows Phone 7 platform and provides deeper Xbox integration. In addition to all the features available in the iOS5 app, it allows users to:
– Search the Xbox catalogue of music, movies and games using Bing search
– Control music and movie playback on the Xbox console using the phone as a remote
In addition, the Windows Phone 7 operating system already provides integration with Xbox Live as standard, allowing users to play games on the go and collect achievements for their Xbox accounts.
While the functionality of these apps might not be completely ground-breaking, their release demonstrates how companies are starting to make technology work together for a richer end user experience.
The introduction of these apps might not make you run out and buy an Xbox or a specific handset, but it’s a fantastic free addition for those that already own both, and it may well swing avid Xbox fans to consider Windows Phone 7 devices when looking to get their next Smartphone.
Of course, really savvy individuals could get themselves a Windows Phone 7 device with a free Xbox 360 console and make the most of the Xbox integration!
